A troupe of human curiosities, aka "freaks," arrives in the quiet hamlet of Jupiter, Fla., in 1952. Around the time of the group's arrival, a dark entity emerges that threatens the lives of the town's residents and those of the visitors. The latter -- performers -- strive to continue against a backdrop of the "carny" experience hearing its death knell. Elsa Mars runs the show, employing individuals who include bearded woman Ethel Darling and conjoined sisters Bette and Dot Tattler.
