Archie Bunker is a veteran of the Second World War and working-class citizen living in Queens with his wife Edith, daughter Gloria and son-in-law Michael. Despite being labelled as a prejudiced outspoken bigot, Archie (Caroll O'Connor) is just a baby boomer that is struggling to adapt to the changes that the '70s brought to the world. His sweet and understanding wife Edith (Jean Stapleton) puts up with his raspberry blowing and often proves herself as the wisest one in the house. Their daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers) can be kind and good-natured while showing some of her father's stubbornness and her husband Mike (Rob Reiner) often clashes with Archie on anything from religion to political and social issues. The show was based on the BBC series "Till Death Us Do Part," and depicted issues previously considered unsuitable for American television like racism, homosexuality and feminism.
