After her husband emerges with an unknown and crippling illness from a mission into a sealed-off environmental disaster zone, biologist Lena (Portman) organizes a highly skilled team to enter the area herself in the hope of discovering just what has infected him. Inside the area, which has been contained for the past 30 years, she and her team find a pristine and beautiful wilderness where evolution seems to have lurched in unexpected directions with the local animals, and where the rules of nature itself don’t seem to be working as expected.
