Noni Jean (Mbatha-Raw) is a rising R&B singer on the brink of superstardom. Pressured by her manager mother (Driver) since she was a little girl, Noni reaches a breaking point from her life in the spotlight. An incident on a balcony one night draws her attention to Kaz Nicol (Parker), a young cop assigned to protect her. With a future in politics in the cards, Kaz understands what it’s like to be driven by one’s career. The two begin a romance that the people around them speak out against, urging them to put their ambitions before love.
