Working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, Mike Williams (Wahlberg) is forced to leave his family behind to make a living. As the crew settles into their daily roles, they bond together to get through. One day, a sudden explosion destroys the rig, causing it to sink and oil to spill into the ocean. As the rig collapses around them, the crew is forced to desperate actions to survive. Mike and other workers fight against the odds and try to save as many people as they can.
