A brash, aging comedian (Turkington) is stuck in a deep rut and looking to jumpstart his fast-fading career. He takes stand-up gigs at a host of shabby third-rate venues across the California desert, all while trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Seimetz). When the promise of a big-time Hollywood show comes up, he stops at nothing to try and land the show, alienating friends and growing more volatile. John C. Reilly, Tye Sheridan and Michael Cera also star in this dark comedy.
