In 1950s Pittsburgh, a former Negro League player named Troy Maxson (Washington) struggles with his now-quiet life. Working as a waste collector, he does his best to provide for his wife Rose (Davis) and his son Cory (Adepo). As their financial troubles mount, their relationships reach a breaking point. His son rebels when he can’t show affection, and Rose does her best to keep the family together and deal with Troy’s regrets. Troy tries to come to terms with the life he has lived, for his family’s sake.
