When a mysterious stranger named Paul (Hawke) rides into town with his dog, he is immediately targeted by the town’s goons. After Paul beats one of them in a fight, the town’s marshal (Travolta) tells him to leave. He doesn’t get far before he is ambushed by the men he embarrassed, and they kill his dog and leave him for dead. Helped by a lonely bartender named Mary Anne (Farmiga), he returns to the town to exact his revenge, waging an all-out war against the marshal and his thugs.
