Ambitious Joseph Süss Oppenheimer (Conrad Veidt) rises out of the Jewish ghetto in the 1730s Duchy of Wurttemburg through shrewd business deals and by becoming indispensable to the lecherous, cruel Duke Karl Alexander (Frank Vosper).
