Eight-year-old Alton (Lieberher) has unique supernatural abilities for which he is hunted by agencies that will exploit him. His father, Roy (Shannon), is desperate to protect the 8-year-old as religious extremists and the highest levels of government both race to find him and use him for their own ends. Along with his friend Lucas (Edgerton) and his ex-wife Sarah (Dunst), Roy and Alton go on the run in the hopes of finding a secret location where they can live in peace. With both groups hot on their tail, though, their escape is far from certain, and a world-changing event could be on the horizon.
