The lives of the men of a World War I infantry regiment are forever changed when a good-natured stray dog starts hanging around the parade grounds of Yale University. One soldier, Robert Conroy (Lerman), names the dog Stubby and smuggles him to the front, where he provides company for the soldiers in the trenches, warns of pending gas attacks and rescues the wounded. His actions soon catch the attention of newspapers back home, and it doesn’t take long for the little dog to become a famous war hero to the people back in America and beyond.
