After her mother Ruth (Danner) wanders out into the freezing cold in the middle of the night, Bridget (Swank) flies to Chicago to help her brother, Nick (Shannon), convince their father, Burt (Forster), that Ruth needs to be put into a care facility for people with dementia, but Burt refuses to acknowledge that his wife needs any help at all. With bull-headed Nick butting heads with his equally stubborn father, it’s up to Bridget to break the deadlock and help their father face the hard reality of their family’s situation.
