Woman Walks Ahead
2017 Biography
Catherine Weldon (Chastain), an artist from Brooklyn, travels west in the 1890s to pursue her dream of painting a portrait of Sitting Bull (Greyeyes). Berated by the local men for being a big-city liberal with a foolish idea, she struggles though the challenges set in her way due to both her gender and her white skin, before finally coming face to face with the Lakota leader. As she begins her painting, she becomes swept up in the struggles of the Lakota people, and finds herself torn between two very different contemporary worlds.
