A Sorry State

Documentary

TVO's "A Sorry State" profiles the life-changing story of filmmaker Mitch Miyagawa. Miyagawa's family received three Canadian government apologies. In 1988, then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney issued an apology to the Miyagawa family for the internment of 22,000 Japanese Canadians during World War II. Miyagawa describes how his parents, stepparents and others have dealt with the past, by way of ignoring it, forgiveness or remaining bitter. In his journey of discovery, a wave of official government apologies comes to light as well as Canada's latest attempts at reconciliation.
