Back in Time for Tea
History
Sara Cox and social historian Polly Russell travel back in time with a family of five to see how working class families lived over the past 100 years. Based in Yorkshire, the family discover the food people ate, from tripe to microwave chips, the work they did, and how they spent what free time they had. In doing so they create a story of class and regional identity, as well as experience the creation of modern Britain. Along the way the family, aged between 13 and 50, have to experience life on the breadline during much less comfortable times, but also get to experience historical pleasures such as a trip to the beach, and a meal in one of the very first Harvesters.
