After their ten-year-old son is expelled from school for threatening another student with a gun, Carmen issues her crime lord husband Frans an ultimatum: either he leaves his life of crime, or she leaves him. Unable to make a change in time, Frans is murdered, and Carmen finds herself swiftly and viciously pulled into the power vacuum left by his death. No stranger to the criminal underworld due to her family's connections, she nonetheless struggles to balance raising her three children, keeping a police investigation at bay, managing her late husband's drug empire and seeking out his killers all at the same time.
