The Doctor arrives with Polly, Ben and Jamie at a strange colony whose inhabitants are brainwashed into working in dangerous gas mines for the Macra, a crab-like alien race. Ben is hypnotised into joining them, and the Doctor must uncover the mystery behind the colony while keeping his friends safe from the menacing Colony Controller.
