Expedition Volcano
Documentary
Deep in the heart of Africa lies Nyiragongo, one of the most spectacular volcanoes on Earth and one of the most dangerous. With the largest continually active lava lake, the volcano has already erupted twice in the past 50 years. Due to war and humanitarian crises in the region and the activity of the volcano itself, Nyiragongo also happens to be one of the least studied active volcanoes. Now, an international and local team of scientists have banded together, immersing themselves in the actual volcano to study Nyiragongo and discover the warning signs of another eruption. Additionally, humanitarian doctor Xand van Tulleken investigates how the volcano has affected the lives of the people who live in the surrounding area, from deadly diseases to suffocating gases.
