In 1863, Abraham Lincoln proved himself a master of a new frontier, not on the battlefields of the Civil War, but in his 'high-tech' command centre. From the War Department Telegraph Office, Lincoln was able to wield control across those distant battlefields. This programme considers Lincoln's experiment in electronic leadership and how it led to the rebirth of America at Gettysburg, both in the decisive battle and with the words that recast the American ideal as a national creed.
