Lucy and Joe are in a relationship, but it is faltering because they don't seem to be in the same place in their relationship. Lucy feels like she is in a good place and wants to settle down. So she mentions to Joe that she might stop taking her birth-control pill. That possibility sends commitment-phobic Joe running for the nearest airport, and he spends the next year travelling the world. Upon his return, Joe finds that Lucy has moved on with her love life, quit her job and is now living with her father. Although both Lucy and Joe have had romantic flings with others in the last year, there appears to still be something between the two, and they must try to come to terms with the complications of love - whether that means being with each other or being with others.
