Written by Andrew Davies and starring Jeremy Piven in the title role, the ensemble drama series `Mr Selfridge' tells the story of flamboyant American entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge, who in 1909 began a retail transformation in Britain. He arrives from Chicago with wife Rose and their four children, on a mission to completely change the shopping experience on London's famous Oxford Street now that women are revelling in a new sense of freedom and modernity. Selfridges opens to rave reviews, becoming a must-see attraction thanks to Harry's innovative marketing. As time passes, however, it becomes clear the beloved businessman must deal with his self-destructive tendencies before it's too late. `Mr Selfridge' is based upon the book `Shopping, Seduction and Mr Selfridge' by Lindy Woodhead.
