Loosely based on the memoirs of Molly Lefebure, the secretary to Home Office Pathologist Keith Simpson during the Second World War, the two-part crime drama is set in the centre of the birth of modern forensics - the London Blitz. Dr Lennox Collins is a pathologist obsessed with solving cases through all means available, including the use of new pathology, from chemical tests to controversial psyche-based methods. Together with Molly Cooper, the first female secretary to a pathologist, Lennox discovers a serial killer at large under cover of the Blitz but convincing his unsympathetic boss, DI Freddy Wilkins, to have faith in his methods and theories becomes a tough sell, especially when the government is willing to convict the wrong man to ensure the country's morale is sustained.
