Celebrity chef and restaurateur Rick Stein goes on a culinary journey through history. The presenter travels through the countries of the former Byzantine Empire to learn about their past and uncover recipes that have lasted through the years. The episodes capture the gastronomic road trip through Italy, Croatia, Albania, Greece and Turkey. Stein begins in Venice, where he cooks up some holiday favourites, including seafood risotto, tiramisu and gnocchi. Along his way to the final destination in Istanbul, the chef explores what local markets have to offer and samples the local cuisine in restaurants and people's homes.
