With friends, family and medical professionals providing their support and expertise, Savannah, Ga., resident Ruby Gettinger faces an eye-opening order from her doctor: lose weight or die. The series begins with Gettinger at 500 pounds (she once weighed more than 700 pounds) and follows her journey as she overcomes her anxiety to join a gym, enlist a trainer and get help from a nutritionist, not to mention various doctors, dieticians and a psychiatrist. While Gettinger doesn't have a targeted weight goal, she does dream of a healthier lifestyle and doing things she's never done before, like taking a bubble bath.
