During World War II, he was hailed as the countrys messiah and saviour, but after the War, his paranoia grew. He saw enemies everywhere and decided to destroy them all in a final purge. But would he succeed? Stalins Last Purge not only details the devious plots of Stalins final years, but it is also the first comprehensive film to examine his actions from the point of view of Russias Jewish leaders. Many of them, passionate supporters of Stalin during the war years, were later hunted down by his secret police. Solomon Mikhoels, the celebrated director of Moscows Yiddish theatre was assassinated at night. 15 Jewish writers were put on secret trial and murdered. And in the Doctors Plot of 1953, Stalin devised a scheme that he hoped would finally demolish all his enemies first the Jews, then his secret service, and then Mikoyan, Beria and Molotov.
