John Hurt stars in the 2004 miniseries as Alan Clark, the flamboyant, outspoken and controversial Conservative MP. The six-part programme focuses on the merry, and sometimes malicious, diaries that Clark penned during his political career from 1983 to his death in 1999. Said Hurt in 2003: "My reason for doing `The Alan Clark Diaries' is that I've always enjoyed playing individuals and you can't get more individual than Alan Clark, who was larger than life." Jenny Agutter co-stars as Jane, Clark's strong-minded, loyal wife of 41 years.
