John Caudwell turned 26 mobile phones into a multibillion-pound business in a matter of two decades and became a billionaire. As with many wealthy people, Caudwell uses his fortune to help others, which he does as the titular 'angel'. Each episode features six hopefuls competing for a £100,000 investment from Caudwell to make their business dreams come true. The entrepreneurs compete in a series of rounds that test Caudwell's six golden business attributes - drive, ambition, passion, resilience, commercial intellect, and leadership. One entrepreneur is eliminated following each round until one remains and wins the investment. The investment is a risky move for Caudwell, who does not find out what kind of business he has invested in until after he makes his choice and puts the money on the table.
