For many years, Dan and Emily have tried everything to start a family but have had no success. A series of unsuccessful fertility treatments and IVF procedures appears to come to a disheartening end when Dan's sister Hilary's act of surrogacy ends in miscarriage, ending the couple's hopes of having a child. That is until they meet Kaya, an 18-year-old girl whose chance encounter with Dan and Emily leads to her overhearing their situation. She unexpectedly offers the couple her body as surrogate for another chance to try again.
