Three men battle boredom, strange visitors and their own customers while working at an all-night petrol station in Reykjavik. The eccentric boss, Georg, plays the heavy, a somewhat obnoxious type who doesn't hesitate to talk down to his charges, similar to the way Ricky Gervais' wacky David Brent went about business in `The Office'. In the line of Georg's fire is the hapless Olafur, the station's longest-tenured employee who really wants to be a band manager, and Daniel, an intelligent former medical school student who often challenges what he believes is unfair treatment by Georg. `The Night Shift' originally aired in Iceland, where it's produced, before making its BBC premiere.
