From medical quacks pushing battery-powered cure-alls to the frightening new electric chair and the seemingly magical X-ray photography, Victorian identities and world views were radically altered as their world changed around them. Hannah also examines the earliest attempts at powered flight, as well as a much simpler technology that nonetheless brought profound changes to women's independence: the bicycle.
