The story of Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson, the woman for whom he gave up the throne. Intrigued by the flirtatious and straight-talking American in a nightclub, the future king becomes infatuated with her and begs her to divorce her husband. The affair leads to scandal and constitutional crisis when George V dies, leaving Edward as monarch. Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin insists Wallis cannot become Queen.
