This drama series takes a look at the early life of popular `All Creatures Great and Small' veterinarian James Herriot, focusing on his time, during the 1930s, as a student at Glasgow Veterinary School in Scotland. The idealistic youngster, who has recently arrived in Glasgow, is taken under the wing of his newfound friends, Whirly Tyson and Rob McAloon, as the trio, a veterinary version of the Three Musketeers, make their way through school.
