The No. 7 Fighting Irish host the No. 10 Hoosiers for a College Football Playoff first-round game. The winner meets Georgia in the quarterfinals at the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. The Indiana schools, located some 200 miles apart, last met in 1991.
College Football Southern Methodist University vs. Penn State
No. 6 Penn State faces No. 11 SMU in a CFP first-round matchup. The schools met twice before, a 13-13 tie in the 1947 Cotton Bowl and a Penn State home victory in 1978. The winner faces No. 3 Boise State in the quarterfinals on New Year's Eve.

College Football Clemson vs. Texas
The No. 5 Longhorns host the No. 12 Tigers for a College Football Playoff first-round matchup. The programs have never met. The winner faces No. 4 Arizona State in a quarterfinal on New Year's Day. Clemson beat SMU in dramatic fashion to win the ACC.
College Football Tennessee vs. Ohio State
The No. 9 Volunteers (10-2) draw the No. 8 Buckeyes (10-2) in the College Football Playoff's first round. Ohio State went 3-4 during the four-team era of the CFP, winning a national title in 2014-15. Tennessee beat OSU in the 1995-96 Citrus Bowl.
Playoff Quarterfinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl Penn State vs. Boise State
The No. 3 Broncos (12-1) and No. 6 Nittany Lions (12-2) meet in the Fiesta Bowl for a CFP quarterfinal. Penn State got two pick-sixes in a 38-10 romp over No. 11 SMU on Dec. 21. Boise State star Ashton Jeanty finished second in Heisman Trophy voting.
